It is with a sense of pride that I can highlight the remarkable achievements of the faculty of Engineering of SAITM within a short span of 2 years. Established on the 1st of July 2009, the faculty currently conducts 4 Bachelor of Science degree courses ranging from Civil and Infrastructure to Mechatronics specializing in robotics and one Bachelor of Science program in Computer Science specializing in Software Engineering and IT in affiliation with the prestigious Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand.
All programs conducted at the highest international standards with emphasis on project based training and research has thus far attracted over 200 students with high growth potential in the future intakes. Within the short period of existence, the faculty has established itself as the leading non-state sector engineering faculty with the setting up of state of the art engineering and computer laboratories coupled with advanced reading and teaching materials.
I am also proud to head a highly qualified faculty, both permanent and visiting – selected from among the best from state universities, all experts in their respective fields of Engineering, jelled into a highly cohesive unit of dedicated and result oriented teaching and research staff who have collectively established Industry Consultative Boards, conducted research symposiums and organized in-plant training facilities for the students in leading industries in Sri Lanka, all within the first two years of operation.
With the granting of degree awarding status to the faculty by the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka, we have drawn up plans for the introduction of new and specialized high-tech degree programs in Automobile and Aeronautical Engineering and to set our foot print as a highly sought after and respected centre of engineering learning and research in the South Asian region.
